Sober Better

A Roadbook

A book that brings together personal experience, social observation, and scientific insight on the subject of alcohol.

The chapters explore identity, family, society, and responsibility – and how these elements relate to one another.

Which patterns sustain, which routines take effect, and which spaces for change become visible?

Insight as a process for making one’s own decisions.

« Not your typical addiction literature. »

« No looking back. For me, it’s a look forward. »

« What stands out about this book is the way it engages with the reader. It doesn’t lecture and it doesn’t judge. »

« A demanding book. »

« A book that finds its position between personal reflection and specialist literature. »

About the Autor

Frank Soberman is an author and publisher based in Hamburg.
He studied law and philosophy and currently works in publishing, photography and digital media. His longstanding interest in art and culture, along with his work as a photographer, shapes the way he sees people and their lives.

For almost two decades, he worked as a taxi driver and ran a limousine service, meeting people from across society and around the world. He also practiced skydiving – an experience of intensity, fear, courage and personal boundaries. Law, philosophy and journalistic work stand for structure, critical thinking and research.
His interest in the subject of alcohol is deeply personal.

For many years, he has been exploring the role alcohol plays in individual lives, in families and in our culture. From personal reflection, observation, conversations and research, Sober Better gradually emerged: a project aimed at understanding alcohol, questioning habits and finding practical ways to change them.

Behind it is a simple idea:
Understanding something matters – experiencing change matters even more.
